Top Ten Books I Read Before I Became A Blogger

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, with a different topic set each week. This week the top ten topic is:

Top Ten Favourite Books I Read Before I Was A Blogger

I've been a blogger for just less than a year, so actually this isn't too hard. Plenty to choose from! To avoid me compiling a list made up entirely of Diana Wynne Jones books, I'm only putting each author on the list once. So, in no particular order:

1) Howl's Moving Castle, by Diana Wynne Jones

2) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, by J. K. Rowling

3) Anne of Green Gables, by L. M. Montgomery

4) The King Must Die, by Mary Renault

5) The Time Traveller's Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger

6) The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula le Guin

7) The Discworld series, by Terry Pratchett (I know, I know, but I can't pick just one)

8) A Game of Thrones, by George R. R. Martin

9) The Magician's Guild, by Trudi Canavan

10) The Roman Mysteries series, by Caroline Lawrence (Eek, I'm cheating again!)

  1. I love this list! I loved a Game of Thrones although I haven't had time to pick up the rest of the novels as they just take so long to read. I just bought the Magicians Guild and I;m so excited to read it, even more so now that you've recommended it. I also borrowed Howls Moving Castle and I hope to read that next. Ah Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite Harry Potter book and movie too! I would like to read Anne of the green gables as I've heard so much about it.

Thanks for sharing this awesome list!

    1. Ooh, hope you enjoy The Magician's Guild! And definitely read Howl's Moving Castle when you get a chance - it's so good! Such a lovely story and one of my favourite books. :-)

      Thanks Annabelle!

  2. I really think I need to pick up Howl's Moving Castle! I have only heard good things about it. I put series on my list too because sometimes it is just too hard to choose one!

    1. I would recommend Howl's Moving Castle to anyone! :-) Hehe, yeah it can be so hard to pick out individual books from a series, especially if it's a really long series, and if the books in it all contribute to each other and make each other better. Sometimes books are more memorable as part of their series too.

  3. There are a couple of books we share this week, The Time Traveler's Wife being one. Harry Potter also made my list, I put the whole series, however if I had to pick one, The Prisoner of Azkaban would have been it.
I hope to read Anne of Green Gables and Howl's Moving Castle at some point... Too many books, too little time to explore them all.
I first read Terry Pratchett earlier on in this year, I read Dodger... And I wasn't too impressed, although I do feel like I started on a wrong book. Any recommendation as to where would have been a better place to start?

    1. I loved The Time Traveller's Wife, such a beautiful book! Yay, I definitely recommend both Anne and Howl. :-)

Actually, funnily enough I just wrote an article about Discworld and where new readers should start. If you like urban fantasy and/or mystery stories, then you should probably start with the City Watch books. The first of those is called 'Guards! Guards!'

If you like magic and witches, and teen girls who kick ass, then start with the Tiffany Aching books. The first of those is called 'Wee Free Men'.

The first book in Discworld is called The Colour of Magic, and it's about wizards and dragons and magic and all sorts of things. It's quite a hectic book, not as tightly plotted as the others and with much geekier humour. I did really like it, but it's not necessarily the best Discworld book to start with.

You can read my whole article about Discworld here, if you like:

    1. Thanks Marissa, and thanks for the follow too! :-) You should definitely read the Harry Potter books if you get a chance - they're so good, and will add more to the story than you see in the films. :-)

    1. Thanks Aleksandra! :-) I can imagine this week's topic being really hard for people who've been blogging for a while now... remembering when you've read books can be hard, especially if you re-read favourite books a lot! :-)

    2. Yeah, I do re-read them, that's the problem, and I've been blogging for 3+ years now, and I didn't start using Shelfari & Goodreads until after I started blogging, so that's the 2nd problem :) Although I did remember some others after I created the list, so it's a shame I forgot about them, but it is what it is :D
