Bout of Books - Thursday's Mini-Challenges

Today's first mini-challenge is being hosted at Escape Through the Pages, and the challenge is to create a book-spine poem. We can add extra words, as long as we don't add more words than the amount of books we're using. So if we use 10 books, we can have 10 extra words.

I love book poems! They're so much harder than they look, but a lot of fun. Here's mine:

The piano tuner is playing sharps,
composing fragile things,
soul music like magic or madness,
scattering like light across the city
and the city sings.

For today's second mini-challenge Rachel from The One With Rachel's Book has asked us to name our favourite vampires from popular fiction. Here you go:

Hehehe. Now, there are a lot of vampires out there to choose from, but I actually haven't read many of the big vampire series - Vampire Academy, The Vampire Diaries, the Sookie Stackhouse books, etc. So most of my images of vampires probably come from TV and films.

There's Louis, Lestat and Claudia in Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice, a book I really enjoyed. This was the first story I read that wrote vampires as the main characters, and sympathetic to an extent, without actually making them good. They were tragic and seductive, but also frightening. I don't actually mind vampires being good, but I tend to prefer them as the bad guys, of which I think Jerry, the vampire from Fright Night, is my favourite. Great film!

But the ones I keep coming back to are the vampires from Buffy. I grew up with this TV series and it's still one of my favourites, so it makes sense that these would be my favourite vamps. We were supposed to name one male and one female vamp, so who better than Spike and Drusilla?

"I'm naming all the stars."
"You can't see the stars, love. That's the ceiling. Also, it's day."

Who are your favourite vampires? Any you really can't stand?

  4. Love your poem, some great titles used!

Vamps don't come any better than Spike and Dru do they? Think they would have had my vote too :)

  5. Thank you! :-) Spike and Dru are awesome! Looks like they have a good chance of winning the overall fave vampire award too, though Spike has some fierce competition from Damon (Vampire Diaries) by the look of other people's responses. :-)
